We did it! We made it to year two of our little podcast. Thank you to everyone has been listening so far. After a few setbacks and delays to start this second year of Very Unreasonable Things we are back to continue our trip into the big four of slasher/horror icons. We are discussing Friday the 13th (1980) this episode. We all know what this franchise gave us in terms of memorable movie villain and sfx but does this first entry into the franchise deserve that much credit or is looked at with rose colored glasses because of what came after? Did Sean Cunningham and Victor Miller have any idea of what they were creating or did they merely benefit from the popularity of horror at the time and the creative ideas of others going forward? Join us as we tackle this topic on this episode of Very Unreasonable Things.

Halloween (Revisit)
Saturday Feb 05, 2022
Saturday Feb 05, 2022
Here we are one year into the podcast and we are doing a redo for our last episode of our first year! As a part of this little project we're doing we will end up doing a couple of movies again but this time with Daniel. One year already in the books. We didn't quite reach our goal of an episode every two weeks but two episodes a month isn't bad for a bunch of amateurs. In this episode we revisit the 1978 classic Halloween. We cover the important topics like Mrs. Myers' apparent lack of surprise that her son is a killer, Dr. Loomis hanging out in the bushes, how Annie Brackett took over the middle of the movie, Kurt Russell, school lunches, microwaving a frozen pizza and MORE Kurt Russell. Come check out the episode and thank you for listening, we hope you enjoy.

Very Unreasonable Things Presents: Lionheart Watchalong Sort of...
Saturday Jan 22, 2022
Saturday Jan 22, 2022
Billy and Josh wanted to record some extra content so they had the idea to do a watchalong. Josh was visiting from Sweden and we tried to take advantage of this opportunity to do something different. Let me preface this by saying we are nothing if but amateurs. This was a fun experiment and we learned a lot and we think we can do this better going forward. Unfortunately this is our first attempt at this sort of thing and there were some hiccups. There will be some gaps, of course if you are watching along they won't matter as much and then there is our biggest snafu but I think I'll leave that as a surprise. Hopefully you enjoy the content and we look forward to doing this again but better. Thanks for listening.

Green Room
Saturday Dec 25, 2021
Saturday Dec 25, 2021
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. On this Christmas day episode drop Billy and Josh are back to discuss a very much non Christmas movie in the very brutal Green Room. Released in 2015. Starring Anton Yelchin and Patrick Stewart in a role that was definitely a shock at the time, Darcy the ruthless club owner who finds himself at odds with the Ain't Rights. Directed by Jeremy Saulnier, director of Blue Ruin, Green Room tells the story of a punk band who find themselves attacked after witnessing a murder in a club in the Pacific Northwest. What do the guys think about this relatively new entry into the horror genre? Why did it take so long for Josh to watch this movie? Take a listen and find out the answer to these questions and more.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Wednesday Dec 01, 2021
Wednesday Dec 01, 2021
1974 saw the release of one of the most influential horror movies of all time, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The landmark film follows a group of friends on a road trip who happen to come upon a family of cannibals. The film marks the emergence of Tobe Hooper as a force in the horror genre and the debut of an icon in Leatherface. The first film in our little slasher project, we discuss this classic and discuss whether the film holds up or has it began to show it's age and the limitations placed on the film makers at the time. Join us as we discuss The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Who will survive and what will be left of them?

Surprise! To celebrate the beginning of our slasher icons project we've decided to release for the first time outside of our website and Soundcloud the very first episode of Very Unreasonable Things. Billy and Josh wax poetic for three hours about the first three A Nightmare on Elm Street movies. "But aren't you guys going to be covering these movies in your slasher series?" Yes we are. This is just a bonus so to speak. This will not take the place of the those particular episodes when we get to them. Plus this first episode didn't have Daniel on it so now you have a reason to listen to all of them. "This sound quality sucks." Yeah it does, it was our first episode and we didn't know what we were doing(we still don't). If you haven't heard this one before and are curious to hear how it all began then check this one out.

Monday Oct 18, 2021
It's been a while everyone. Sorry for the delay, real life happened and I had to step back for a little bit. Don't worry though, we are back and we have plenty more episodes to bring to you! On this episode we take a step away from horror to cover a 90s action classic. We are talking about the Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze classic directed by Kathryn Bigelow and also featuring Gary Busey, Point Break. How do you catch a ring of successful bank robbers that are seemingly impossible to catch? By surfing of course. What is the most logical career choice after you lose your NFL dreams to a knee injury in college? FBI Agent naturally. How many meatball subs should you order? Most definitely three. Join us as we discuss all these things and more and remember, it's never too late to surf.

Here at Very Unreasonable Things we offer our takes on mainly movies but we also dabble in other topics such as the year in pop culture and of course Iron Maiden. See at one time all of us plus our pal Mitchell was in the same fantasy league. After it's dissolution only one remains. On this episode Josh and Mitchell discuss the league fantasy draft the league which Billy is a member. Some feelings are sure to be hurt as Josh and Mitchell give out their grades. We also offer up some takes on the upcoming season. Check out this special episode of Very Unreasonable Things Presents.

Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight
Friday Sep 03, 2021
Friday Sep 03, 2021
On this episode of Very Unreasonable Things we are joined by a guest to discuss the 1995 Tales from the Crypt movie Demon Knight. Does the Crypt Keeper's first theatrical offering hold up? Why didn't we get the original movies planned in the Tales from the Crypt series? Why didn't we get a Demon Knight 2 following Jada Pinkett's character? Also lines are drawn as the movie ends up posing an important question, when is it appropriate to use ketchup? Friendships are tested as revelations are brought to light. All these things are discussed by Daniel, Josh and Billy and two of the three may or may not have had too much too drink prior to recording. Not our most professional episode by any stretch but still take a listen and relive Demon Knight.

Sunday Aug 01, 2021
Shockerrrrrr!!!! This episode we are discussing the 1989 Wes Craven film Shocker. We are joined by Cortney Sanders to decide how well Craven's attempt at a new franchise post Nightmare on Elm Street and a new villain post Freddy in Horace Pinker holds up. Was this the beginning of a new era or would Craven have to hold off a few more years for his dreams of a new franchise to come to fruition. I think we all know the answer to that but still take a listen as we dive into the heavy metal laced horror flick Shocker starring a young Peter Berg.

Near Dark
Monday Jul 19, 2021
Monday Jul 19, 2021
This episode we are talking about the 1987 cult classic western vampire flick Near Dark. Billy and Daniel are joined by Hayden as they discuss this film from Kathryn Bigelow that despite being highly spoken of is often overlooked and even harder to find. The 80s saw the rise of the teen/young adult vampire film with Fright Night, The Lost Boys, and others. Not least among them is Near Dark. Starring Adrian Pasdar and what seems to be half the cast of Aliens the film is everything all at once. You want a love story? Check. Vampire film? We got you. Neo Western? No problem. The story of a young man trying to find his place and where he fits in? Look no further. All those things and more packed into a tight 94 min runtime. Take a listen as the crew at Very Unreasonable Things dive into Near Dark and it's vampire's somewhat shaky time management skills.

Them! vs Tarantula
Tuesday Jul 06, 2021
Tuesday Jul 06, 2021
This episode Daniel and Billy are going buddy cop on the mic with Josh's absence. The dastardly duo is discussing the sci-fi classics Them!(you have to shout the title) and Tarantula. Two movies from the early age of science fiction cinema featuring giant ants and an even bigger tarantula. One created by atomic weapons and the other created by man meddling with the natural order of things. Which movie stands out as the superior of the two? Which actor literally towered over his co-stars? Which director went on to direct more sci-fi classics? Could these movies be made today and if they could would we even want them to? The People Under the Stairs
Friday Jun 18, 2021
Friday Jun 18, 2021
This week we're operating without Josh but we've brought in Cortney Sanders to talk about one of her childhood favorites, The People Under the Stairs. The movie tries to answer the age old question, is it worth it to follow a treasure map that leads to a basement of a house owned by two maniacs who happen to be brother and sister AND in an incestuous relationship AND harboring long haired hair metal cannibals in their basement. Does this 1991 Wes Craven horror comedy offering hold up or has time passed it by? Tune in to find out what we think. Thanks for listening.

We talking about Die Hard 2 and The Last Boy Scout. This episode we are talking peak Bruce Willis and the surprising performance of Damon Wayans. Witness the spectacle as we keep score on which parts of each movie we liked better than the other and then declare Daniel's choices to be wrong. Monday Apr 26, 2021
What's the most dangerous job in Illinois? If you guessed babysitter you would be correct. In this episode we discuss the horror that these brave souls, namely Laurie Strode, face in the form of the ominous Michael Myers and his equally deranged psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis. After spending eight years trying to reach him and seven years trying to keep him locked away Michael escapes with some pretty nifty driving moves he learned obviously at the Smith's Grove Sanitarium's drivers ed course. What ensues is a night of terror as Michael methodically hunts down Haddonfield's biggest threat to freedom, the teenage babysitter. In hot pursuit is Dr. Loomis with his six shooter which he most definitely has a permit for. Loomis engages in a series of buddy cop adventures as he chases his former patient from the suburbs to the hospital where the only patients are a handful of newborns and a poor child who bit into razor that the doctors refuse to see. Take a listen as we discuss an American horror classic and it's not quite as classic sequel.

Friday the 13th on Elm St: Freddy's Dead vs Jason Goes to Hell pt 2
Friday Apr 02, 2021
Friday Apr 02, 2021
What do you get when a studio secures the rights to one of the biggest horror franchises in of the 80s with a antagonist that people have been waiting to see clash with the other big icon of 80s horror? You sure as hell don't get Freddy vs Jason, instead you get two bad movies that were meant to be the end of their franchises. On top of that you get two guys talking about Jason Goes to Hell for far too long and they have to push the Freddy's Dead portion of the episode into a second part. So here we are finishing up the epic that is Freddy's Dead vs Jason Goes to Hell, an epic so grand that it is only matched by the Illiad(if the Illiad had been written by two idiots). What happens when the once proud Nightmare on Elm Street series sinks so low that not even Iggy Pop and The Goo Goo Dolls can save it? Tune in and find out.

Very Unreasonable Things
We're a group of friends who enjoy movies. Like most groups of friends we would finding ourselves talking about the movies we enjoy be it picking on the movie or talking about all the things we enjoyed. We thought that since we were already having these conversations we might as well record them. Let other people here our thoughts if they wanted to and maybe share their opinion as well. We talk mainly about horror movies but we also touch on b-movies and action movies. At the end of the episode we give our ratings using the Letterboxd grading system and when the episode airs we enter our ratings onto Letterboxd. Sometimes we will do some topic episdoes. One of our favorite topics is our "year" episodes. We take a year and we talk about our top five from multiple categories such as movies, music and video games.
